Texas is an interesting place to visit. On our recent trip we saw more of Texas than ever before. It is a very big state! We usually take Interstate 40 through Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle. As you head north along the highway, you will begin to see this 190 foot cross in the distance. It can be seen up to 20 miles away! The cross is actually located in Groom, Texas – a very small town along the original Route 66. Although the cross was erected in 1995, it is still something to behold along this historical route. We stopped to see for ourselves and found this to be a very moving and awe-inspiring experience.
It you will notice the statues, car, and building below the cross it will give an idea as to the size of the cross.
2nd Largest Cross in the Western Hemisphere
I have enclosed some websites to explore for further information on the cross. I tried to give an overview that would allow a viewer to decide if this is an act of faith or an interesting attraction.
